It wasn’t long ago when people didn’t even know what Twitter was. Now, more than ever, businesses are turning to Twitter to promote and market their products and services. A lot of them are just trying to understand how Twitter technology works. Many don’t know how to unlock its powerful marketing capabilities. To get the most out of Twitter, here are a few guidelines to follow:

Keep Your Marketing and Advertising To A Minimum

No one likes to receive tweets from a company that does nothing but shameless plugs and promos to increase their website traffic. It’s okay to advertise but don’t go overboard. If you want a more comprehensive marketing and advertising program, pay for it.

Be On Topic & Relevant

Tweet items that are on topic and relevant to your business products or services. For example, it wouldn’t be good to tweet about the latest desktop computer if you’re a HVAC control specialist. People follow you because they’re interested in your business and what you have to say. If you tweet things they may not really be interested in, it’ll will drop your credibility and more times than not you’ll lose followers.

Tweet Regularly

Twitter wasn’t designed for quiet, anti-social business types. If you tweet once a month, you will have trouble building a following. Plus, your followers will quickly lose interest in you or your brand if you lack consistency. This is especially true when starting a new business. Tweet frequently. It will maximize your visibility and brand while keeping your followers engaged.

Use Twitter Management Tools

Keep track of your Twitter activity can be challenging, especially if there is a lot of tweeting activity. Fortunately, there are a lot of tools available out there that can help you manage your Twitter activities more efficiently. TweetDeck and HootSuite are two of the best. Utilizing these tools allow you to stay on top of your traffic and to be more productive on Twitter. You can schedule tweets, turn on notifications, organize your followers, view traffic stats, and much more.

Be Social A Social Butterfly

That is the sole reason why Twitter is one of the most powerful SOCIAL NETWORKING websites out there. Unless are already a well know personality or brand, interaction is critical toward increasing your number of followers. Small things can be significant things like following users who follow you, respond to others tweets or simply thanking someone for retweeting your posts will help you grow.

Tweet Valuable Content

Tweets that are valuable to your audience are typically the ones that are likely to be re-tweeted. Make sure your tweets are valuable to your followers. Tweeting a link to a useful resource is a very good way to give your followers a reason to keep following you.

If you stay focused on these basics, you are sure to see unlimited growth and success in your marketing and promotional efforts while growing your business.
